The 15th Arkansas is most commonly refered to as "Josey's 15th" to distinguish it from the 2 other regiments numbered the 15th Arkansas.
This is despite him rarely being in command of the regiment.
He would be the last designated Colonel of Patrick Cleburne's old regiment, as after Shiloh it rarely required a Colonel.
Hence is probably why he was sent back to Arkansas to recruit a new unit; he wasn't needed for the 15th.

This unit was so depleted later in the war it was consolidated with 9 other units and was known as the 1st Arkansas Consoliated Regiment. That's when Col. Edward A. Howell took command.
