HF Magnificent Seven 2016

Historical-Fiction
Watched it last night on date night with my better half. I enjoyed it, better than the original? No. Hollywood lost any originality a generation ago if not longer.

It was a fun western romp with clear good guys and clear bad guys; a refreshing change from most of the dreck we've gotten lately.

One movie that I would like to see remade is U571, only this time in the remake, I would like to see the Americans admit that it was us British who first found the Enigma machine and that we had hold of it even before the USA entered the war. Talk about rewriting history.:furious:

Shot fired.....:cannon:
Oooh! What about Errol Flynn in Operation Burma?

That movie really upset Churchill, in fairness to the USA, the story was supposed to be a composite of some American actions, it was perhaps made a little too soon after the war. Anyone watching that movie wouldn't have know that the Brits were even there. That's probably why the British 14th Army are still known as the forgotten army.

The issue is that the Brits are always portrayed in a very odd light, just take a look at this scene from Band of Brothers, what British tank commander would ever have ignored a warning of a hidden German tank? it just wouldn't happen. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yKbEHpykf8

I feel your pain! For a long time Custer got massacred, you know...

Read recently that the Poles were the first to crack the code...

Well Monty grabbed at as much credit as he could for British glory

One of my Dad's favorite war movies was "Sink The Bismarck" made in 1960. It was British movie based on story of the British Royal Navy planning, pursuing and sinking the German battleship, The Bismarck.

It starred Kenneth More and Dana Wynter.
That is a great movie, my dad was serving on HMS Bulwark at the time when the movie was being made and he remembered seeing some of the scenes being filmed. I also enjoy watching 'The Cruel Sea'.

Remakes should never be compared to the original. Remakes may be good on their on, but they don't usually measure up to the original.

Thank God Hollywood hasn't tried to remake films like Gone With The Wind, Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivargo and the Ten Commandments.

For me there is only one Magnificent Seven

Yes! There is only ONE Magnificent Seven. I watched it on the big screen as a double feature with the Seven Samurai in a classic Detroit theater years ago. There were English subtitles for Samurai and Japanese subtitles for Magnificent. It was a wonderful experience. There was an organ interlude during intermission. I am not much into watching remakes of classics. I love Denzel but seriously doubt I'll watch the remake knowing how good the two original versions were.

I think it's kind of like comparing the two True Grit movies! You can't beat John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn but Jeff Bridges sure made him his own. Denzel Washington does the same thing, and Ethan Hawke is surprisingly good in the same way Val Kilmer was surprisingly good as Doc Holliday. The theme song, though, left much to be desired although that's a great version of House of the Rising Sun.

I can't stand Jeff Bridges and his mumbling in True Grit. Seemed as if he'd had a stroke

It never said it was a true story. And at the end of the movie it tells you the British found it first. It was a nod to old war movies like Guns of Navsrone which take elements of history and then make a good adventure out of it

Read the book. That incident actually happened in real life. It was not some Hollywood conspiracy to make Poms look bad

What about the "unmentionable," movie with Mel Gibson? You know the one where the bad Brits burned down churches with people in them.
