HF Magnificent Seven 2016

Historical-Fiction
It never said it was a true story. And at the end of the movie it tells you the British found it first. It was a nod to old war movies like Guns of Navsrone which take elements of history and then make a good adventure out of it
Then why did they refuse to mention that in the credits, several request were made by the commanding officer of HMS Bulldog, (Captain Cresswell) that the end credits should mention that U571 was a work of fiction but he was denied. Also why did President Clinton have to write a letter apologizing and reiterating that it was a work of fiction, not to mention that the screen writer of U571 apologized and admitted that he had twisted the truth.

Band of Brothers tank incident you mentioned. That really happened
In that case I would have to say that the British tank commander was following the (ROE), even so it was a stupid thing to do, a couple of HE's into that building and they would have saved themselves. Didn't the Brit Tanker say something along the lines of (No unnecessary destruction of property), under the rules of engagement it would have been justified, especially considering that there was a Tiger hidden. It still begs the question why that particular incident was shown, what about all the fighting that the Brits did where they got it right.

Caen was a tough but to crack and being on the flank of the Allied beaches had to be removed as a threat. Montgomery, (personally I think he was massively egotistical), elected that the British would nullify the threat. The British losses were tremendous... However it tied up the Germans & allowed the Americans to break from the beachheads.

I thought Caen was fought on two fronts, Brits and Canadians on one side and Americans on the other, we got absolutely hammered there, mind you it did make it slightly less difficult for the Americans to advance. I guess that Band of Brothers was initially written for an American audience and so with that in mind the American situation would be the focus, its still one of my favourite HBO shows.

What about the Pacific? How do you rate that show?

I found that difficult to get into but that was probably because I know so little about it, I have talked to a few forum members that had relatives that fought there, to be honest from what they have said, it sounds like hell on earth. I may have to watch Pacific again, I have the box set.

Yeah I'd give it another chance. Wasn't as good as B.O.B's IMO.

If you´re referring to the remake with Bruce Willis and Richard Gere I´m feeling the other way ... excellent remake with an original I don´t like very much. Anyway the book was good, too.
When I have read a book I tend to avoid the movie of the same title, in my humble opinion, movies are never as good as the book, except for Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

Yes, they seldomly are, but there are many instances in which they would be if people would be willing to make more 10-hour movies (they´re not) or to make a really good miniseries instead. Shogun being an excellent example - perfect book, perfect miniseries, much inferior movie cut. More high-quality miniseries and series for book adaptions! There are so many good books made for the screen a try is often, though not always, worth it.

Of course there is the, IMHO, much worse problem with time and money and brain cells being wasted on stuff like Twilight ...

I've heard of this Twilight thingy, most of the women that I know absolutely love it, my sister in law named her daughter Esme Rose, apparently named after two of the characters in the Twilight series. Twilight must be a chick flick or something.
