HF Magnificent Seven 2016

Historical-Fiction
I haven't seen it yet, nor the original. But I won't lie.I do have the hots for Denzel and Chris. Just sayin' ... My friends and I are planning to see it this weekend.

I think it's kind of like comparing the two True Grit movies! You can't beat John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn but Jeff Bridges sure made him his own. Denzel Washington does the same thing, and Ethan Hawke is surprisingly good in the same way Val Kilmer was surprisingly good as Doc Holliday. The theme song, though, left much to be desired although that's a great version of House of the Rising Sun.

Star power. Denzel or Brynner? Not so sure. McQueen or Pratt, well maybe a lean towards McQueen, but Pratt is very good. Bronson is OK but not great as an actor.

Academy Awards, Brynner 1 of 1. Washington 2 of 6. unless you are stuck in 1960 it looks like Washington beats Brynner.

We could look at it this way all the actors in the original 2 out of 4 Academy Awards. Remake Washington by himself 2 out of 6 Academy Awards, so Washington beats all the actors in the original all by himself with more nominations.

I'm sure it is a great remake but someone has to pass a law no one is allowed to remake any more Steve McQueen movies. It's just sacrilege.

Steve McQueen - there was one of him and that's all what there was, there ain't no more!

Just got back from seeing Magnificent Seven 2016. The move had s couple of "people" in it with Civil War Confederate connections. I am still thinking about if it should be considered as good as the original. Regardless, it is worth watching if you like westerns. One suffering from PCSD.

Saw it last night as well. It was fun and I thought parts of it were well done but the original is a my favorite of mine and this one came up short at times.

Regarding the Civil War connections, my understanding from the dialogue was that Denzel's character fought for the US and Hawke's character fought for the CS and that they met during the war.

Well Denzel's character had met the character of Peter Sarsgaard the villain in the movie, when his men had raided Lawrence. I was not sure that Sargaard was suppose to be Quantrill during the 1863 raid or lead the men in the 1856 sacking of Lawrence.

What did yo think of Ethan Hawke as a ex Confederate sharpshooter with PTSD?
