Received some Lakota(Sioux) Recipes today. Had the one for fry bread and pemmican but not their fruit pudding recipe.

2cups chokecherries
1/2 cup water1/4 cup sugar
3 tbsp. cornstarch

In a saucepan mix berries, sugar and 1/4 cup water/ Bring to a boil. Stir cornstarch into 1/4 cup water. While berry mixture is boiling, slowly add the cornstarch water, stirring gently until combined. Simmer for 2 minutes on low heat. When thick remove from heat. Let cool and enjoy by self or on crackers or fry bread.

This is a favorite of the Lakota.
