Wood Ramrod

This is a wood ramrod that came with a Brazilian Light Minie Rifle I purchased. Then an 1853 Enfield I
purchased came with an incorrect steel ramrod which fit nicely in the Brazilian rifle. Any thoughts
on the wood ramrod? It is 31 5/8" long and appears old and looks to be oak.

I suspect that it was a cleaning rod before it was used as a ramrod.

It is a civilian made combination ram rod and cleaning rod all rolled into one.

Why the ridges cut into the ramrod on the left?
Why would it be a combination cleaner/ramrod?

The wood on your hickory ramrod looks similar to the wood my ramrod is made from
so perhaps mine is not oak.

Hickory, Oak, and Ash, can all be a bit difficult to tell which is which in small section samples.
