William Walker and Wheat's Tigers

HTHs,
USS ALASKA

Besides some later Confederate veterans the Nicaragua adventurers included some who served the Union in the 1860s. Perhaps most notably Billy Wilson of New York, who in 1861 raised "Billy Wilson's Zouaves" of the 6th New York Volunteers which subsequently served at Pensacola, and in the deep South...

Below, Col. Billy Wilson, 1861, at left, and Lt. Col. John Creighton, at right, both participants in the Nicaragua ventures... Creighton was notable in the Battle of Santa Rosa, Nicaragua in March, 1856.

Wilson commanded his 6th New York in the siege of Port Hudson. Among the defenders was James T. Coleman of the Miles' Louisiana Legion, who also served in Nicaragua.
