William T. Sherman

What is this, about 1875 at least? He must have been the last man in America who still wore those high collars. You have to respect a guy who just will not turn loose of some random fashion that was popular when he was young. :)

Thanks for the kind words - it's from the same photoshoot of him pre-1872 as General of the Army, that I've already done one of.

What do I know, I thought he was good-looking in the old, pre-Zoloft photos.

This is another wonderful contribution, thank you! Makes me glad I was able to scroll through here this morning. Uncle Billy is a favorite, you did him justice.

Red headed! I love red heads, my husband is strawberry blond. Oh, wait
! This is Sherman we are talking about, but I do love red heads! Ok, don't get upset I was making a joke about Ole' Firebug! ;)

Saw a photo of Sherman from his West Point days - must have been barely out of his teens, real pup! But he had a weird beard - it went down the edges of his face and under his chin, but the cheeks and the front of the chin were shaved, no mustache. Looked like a New England whaler captain! That's the strangest thing I've seen since finding Forrest's picture without his chin beard and mustache!

Just enjoying Shelby Foote's description of him, taking a medical leave, as 'recovering his Johnston jangled nerves ', from when Johnston appeared to be fulfilling Sherman's predictions. Talk about psychological warfare, shredded the man. He came back, like Sherman always did.

Yes, you'd think post-war these men would look awful considering what they all lived through. Most do not, it's the opposite.

"If nominated,I will not run,if elected,I will not serve!"Thanks Zuzah, for another CW icon!
