Does anyone know what hat this soldier is wearing? The soldier is Joseph Haines of the 33rd Illinois Infantry.

Thanks for the info. I looked up the the hat and google says it was issued to Pennsylvania cavalry soldiers. I wonder how he would've been issued the hat.It appears to be a Pascal Patent Hat. His musket looks like it's an Austruan M1842 still in its original tube-lock configuration. Very neat image.

I believe some members of the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry had these, or very similar, hats early in the war.
What's your point? I didn't say the infantryman was a cavalryman. I was backing up an earlier comment that some Penn cavalry units may have had them. Here's what appears to be a Pascal with crossed sabers….He has the infantry hunting horn emblem on his hat.
I did not say you did. There are a members who are not very knowledgeable. Posting the above example would have been appropriate ¿no?What's your point? I didn't say the infantryman was a cavalryman. I had never seen a photo or heard of this hat before. Am always looking for something new to discover. Hat origami, who knew?
I too thought your retort came across as a neener-neenerism. An "oops, sorry about that" might be worth editing into your post above.
Does he actually have a plume in that folding mop bucket of a cap? What's your point? I didn't say the infantryman was a cavalryman. I was backing up an earlier comment that some Penn cavalry units may have had them. Here's what appears to be a Pascal with crossed sabers….

Nice touch.
I'm more interested in the unaltered tube-lock!
Don't see that in images almost at all.
