Ive got some "in the weeds" questions regarding Frank Wesson military carbines...

Only 151 were purchased by General Ripley of the Ordnance Dept. for $23.12 each in July, 1863. One additional Wesson Carbine was purchased from Schuyler, Hartley and Graham of NY. Were any of these Ordnance Dept. procured carbines ever actually issued to a particular federal unit? Are there any records of the serial numbers for those purchased federally, or at least the serial range?

Were any 1st model 44 rimfire models specifically of the military carbine design (short barrel, swivels, flattended non-crescent butt plate) sold privately and if so, is there any feature that one could identify it as being any different thatn the ordnance produced ones?

FYI - State purchases included Indiana (760); Kentucky (1366); and a number to Kansas and Missouri, for a total between 4000-5000 total. Any serial numbers specifically recorded per state militia unit?

I own two, both 1st version in .44 military configuration. 1634 with very faint Kittredge marking and 3310 w/o Kittredge marking, but all Bronze/brass finish. It has been thought the Kittredge marked were purchased by military, but they sold to anyone. They also produced many variation in Sporting models. I have not seen any verified listing
