My Warren cousins in neighboring counties on both sides of the war. Brothers Oliver, Furnifold "Furny", Elias, Edward & Arden Spivey Warren all fighting in Co. A, 1st North Carolina Infantry, (Union), Beaufort Co. NC. Yes, North Carolina fielded Union regiments. All brothers survived with the exception of Oliver Warren who died in Libby Prison, Jan. 17, 1863 from pneumonia. Directly across the sound in Craven Co. was their cousin James Lewis Warren, Co. I, 44th North Carolina Infantry CSA. He too survived the war. I would imagine family reunions were quite exciting.

I had five uncles (brothers) 4 for the Union and 1 CSA. The family never heard from him after the war and assumed he died. It was only about 10 years ago when a family researcher found he had survived the war. You can only assume why he never contacted them.
