It was reported that several 42# guns were taken from the Cincinnati and served during the siege of Vicksburg by Union army artillery crews directed by naval personnel.

I recently read some accounts of her sinking at Vicksburg. The civilians of Vicksburg were happy about it.

They certainly got their money worth out of her as she was sunk twice only to be reborn to fight again. Is not that very cool! Her first sinking proved the ancient tactic of ramming was still effective (Plum Point TN). Her second sinking proved the hazard of plunging artillery rounds fired from enemy batteries placed on great heights (Vicksburg MS). Those rounds can easily smash through the weaker points of the vessels (deck and roof).
