Unknown Mark on Springfield Conversion

Hello All - I'm curious as to a mark from an 1812 Model Springfield percussion conversion with a Richmond barrel. It appears to be a "C" or "O" that is below the trigger guard. Is this a typical inspector mark from when the musket was produced?

It could be the remnant of a Q which was a mark used for weapons reworked by the Confederacy. See this thread for more info:

Thanks. Several folks have thought it to be a Q remnant. Most of these are marked above the trigger guard, has anyone seen one marked below the trigger guard?
