With the Pettibone label its way post war and with no UCV or GAR buttons its had to say as Pettibone made all kinds of fraternal origination items

This company came into existence post Civil War years and were famous for producing uniforms for fraternal and lodge organizations, Knights of Pythias come to mind as well as GAR uniforms. The coat you have, might be a chaplains' frock, but is well post war. Pettibone is still in existence today. They did produce uniforms and swords for private purchase for post war military as well.

All the input is amazing. All your knowledge and insight as to the jacket. I have had the jacket for about 35 years and not properly stored. Not sure what to do with it or who would be interested. Looking forward to joining in some forums. Already learning Learning more history from this sight.

I was going to say that it belongs to a Chaplain/Priest. In the Catholic faith you sometimes see this same style coat.
