Unidentified buttons

I have several civilian buttons that were found in and near the sites of Union camps. However there are 2 that I bought with a lot that included a cdv (which I'll eventually post as well) and some G.A.R. pins and cufflinks. I have searched high and low and cannot find anyone who can help me identify them. If anyone knows anything about them or where I can find some info it would be greatly appreciated. Especially about the flat one.

Thank you for posting these. I hope one of our forum members who know about civilian button will come along and give us some information on these.

The top button appears to be a coverall button. Does the button on the bottom have a backmark? What does its shank look like? None the less very cool finds!

They are just plain ole civilian buttons. You might be able to google the name on the flat button. I can't read it. If the other one has a back-mark it may give some light but they more or less just civilian buttons.

Thanks everyone. The flat one i contacted the Baltimore historical society about a few minutes ago and hopefully they can help with that one. The other is just what is in the image, the back is completely gone.

John Wiekel is listed as a tailor on East German Street on the south side of Baltimore in the February 11, 1904 copy of the "Manufacturer's Record", a weekly financial newspaper. In the February 24, 1899 edition of the "Baltimore Sun", he is shown as donating 2 tons of coal towards a fund for the poor and destitute.

From what I have been able to quickly research, John Weikel was the son of Peter Weikel and had a tailors establishment on Light Street in Baltimore. By the time John was part of the business it was well post war, that this was found in a Union camp could be simply a farmer's button or a visiting veteran who wanted to retrace his steps of years ago.
