NF Underground S1: E2- War Chest

Non-Fiction
I watched it and I have to say the series is losing me rapidly. It's turning out to be much more about Hollywood drama than reality, IMO. In fact, given the inconvenience of watching it here, it's probably lost me altogether at this point.

I only watched episode 2 online, but didn't feel like I'd missed much not seeing 1. It seemed to hit all the cliche highlights of the UGRR and then some.

SPOILERS FOLLOW!

I googled, and I did not know that William Still was actually present at the opening of Box Brown's box, but that's why they made such a big deal about him and the box. I remember reading about some failed copycats, but it must have been part of the fiction to have a copycat success/death.

I cringed when Still included "quilts" in a list of UGRR secrets that were being figured out. Bleh.

The old lady who demanded sex with male slaves seemed like an attempt to add something shocking that was just at the edge of plausibility.

Otherwise, what brass napoleon said above. I wonder what it would seem like to someone who wasn't already into the underground railroad?

After episode two, which I barely made it through, I agree that there were just too many Hollywood-style clichés. When Wednesday's episode 3 rolled around, I didn't watch. But, I had some free time this afternoon and decided to watch E-3. I felt it was slightly better. As good as I expect anything coming out of Hollywood. I don't care for the modern music at all. And the can-can routine/diversion at the governor's mansion - unbelievably ridiculous. But, like the much anticipated "Sons of Liberty", you've got to realize that today's media is interested in drawing the largest audience at the expense of the facts. They insist they have to make it sexy and shocking with a modern twist. In spite of the negatives, I did manage to find some positives, enough so, that I will continue watching on an episode-at-a-time rate and time permitting. I still enjoy and admire much of the acting.
