I know this is bumping the boundaries of this forum but Don't know where else to post. I'm looking for a TOE or any info at all of US Mounted Rifles. Only in existence btw 1846-1861.

TOE = table of organization and equipment. modern military abbreviation. basically a breakdown of the unit's organization, combat strength and equipment. I think I found the Nara roll it may be on but was hoping to get a response here before I ordered it.

I found the act of Congress giving the authorization and organization for the Regiment.
It was found on govinfo.gov.

These are the only organizations I could find in that time period. Of course, there's ten years-worth of organizations I have not found, and I'm still looking for those.

Col. Brackett's 1865 history of the US Cavalry noted the Mounted Rifles were armed with US Rifles, and Colt's army pattern revolvers.

Though the Mounted Rifles and Dragoons were denominated cavalry in 1861 (the US Mounted Rifle Regiment becoming the 3rd US Cavalry Regiment), the Mounted Rifles' tactics remained somewhat.

Also in the South. The Confederates frequently noted their cavalry were essentially mounted riflemen. General Hood:

Before the ACW they had a standard 10 coy mounted regiment organisation, with 64 ptes per coy. In Mexico they served as an infantry battalion of 8 coys (the standard size) and a cavalry sqn of 2 coys (C and I), because they lost their horses en route.

Organisation was:

HQ
Colonel
Lt Col
2x Maj
1x Adj (Lt)
1x QM (Lt)
Sgt Maj
QM Sgt
Principle musician and 2 buglers

10x Coys
Capt
1Lt
2Lt
2x Buglers
1x Farrier/Blacksmith
4 Sgts
4 Cpls
64 Ptes
(Coy has 2 Pl each of an officer, 2 sgts, 2 cpls and 32 ptes, split into 2 sections of 1 sgt, 1 cpl and 16 ptes)

Mounted Rifle coys were significantly larger than infantry or dragoon coys, because the need for 1 in 4 to be horse holders was factored in.
