As I said, I'm not a casino aficionado, but I do know they have provided a lot of jobs to locals there. Maybe this is just another case of 'not in my own backyard'?

If this is the same one that went before, isn't it about a half hour from Gettysburg and uses none of the same roads. I live close to where they were stopped from building a race track near Brandy Station. Now instead of bringing in a facility that had promised to honor the battle and teach people about it, we are loose it a few acres at a time to warehouses and housing and housing additions.

The article says the new site is 3.2 miles from Gettysburg Military Park. Where is that measurement taken from.

As with any place that's main source of income is separating visitors (ie. tourists) from their hard earned incomes, the desire to make even more money is understandable. As long as groups are willing to pay way over the land's value to keep it from the lands of developers, developers are going to continue to make threats of development. And as far as motorcycles on the park is concerned, they pay taxes also and the park should be theirs to enjoy also. If you ban motorcycles, what's next? I'm personally too old to risk life and limb on a Segway Scooter.

Not me, not ever.....I learn a lot from the experience and it definitely lights something inside of me, but its not amusement. For me at least it's much more spiritual than that.

It's 3 miles south of the park's south boundary.

I will give David LeVan credit for one thing: he is persistent and he categorically refuses to take no for an answer.

Having been rebuffed from two prior efforts to place a casino within a stone's throw of the Gettysburg battlefield, this ignoramus is at it again. Here comes attempt number three.

This, by the way, is the same clown that built the huge Harley dealership right next to East Cavalry Field and who is responsible for the hideous nightmare that is Bike Week Gettysburg. As if he hasn't already done enough harm....

Once again, we're going to have to muster the troops to fight this offensive idiocy off. I've reached out to my contacts at the Civil War Trust to find out what will be the best means of fighting this, and will report back when I get a response. But be prepared--your help will be needed.

Bike Week Gettysburg? I don't mind the casino but this motorbike thing is beyond the pale. Especially the pelletheads with loud pipes, poor fellas never got past the baseball card in the bicycle spokes stage of life. These guys also often exhibit the Baby Boomer combover--a bald guy with a ponytail. Many take on the trappings of outlaw bikers while denying being anti social, thus guys with "colors" that say "bikers for Jesus" instead of Outlaws or Hells Angels. Odd.

In St. Augustine we got the backwash from these jaspers during Daytona bike week.

And there are even those who own motorcycles, enjoy riding them, don't belong to clubs and respect the privacy of others! The thread is about a casino in Gettysburgh not stereotyping everyone who owns a motorcycle.

As a frequent Gettysburg visitor, I treat the entire Battlefield with the upmost respect and reverence that it justly deserves.

While I do not gamble and never will, there are many people that find enjoyment at casinos. I understand the need for jobs and tax revenues (unfortunately at the expense of the folks gambling) generated at casinos. I also understand why casinos are built in heavy traffic areas. The difficult part is how to effectively build a large safety zone around Gettysburg that does not diminish and disrupt the sacred aspects of the Gettysburg battlefield. If an additional casino is needed, there has to be a better place than within 3 miles of this sacred Battlefield.

What part of "But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. " don't people understand?

Gettysburg is a true national treasure that needs preserved for the ages.
