I would be interested in any post action recollections that you might wish to share.
I just can't get away from artillery, I was there at CM 2025; day tripping it from home for a Federal piece. First day typical...what happened to the scenario ? One gun had mechanical and technical issues. I ran the #5 & #6 and they were using NPS procedures. Second day, I got "Nicked" by a "round or fragment" on "lower right feet" but managed to "limp" along with my duties. The Rebels pressed in and Federals did not have enough umph! (numbers)- I opine- despite heroic attempts and a lot of "loss of officers" in the units as I now understand it. We were pressured and down to our proverbial last round when our #4 took a Rebel round to the "upper right shoulder" and I "attended" him. Alas my med tools and tourniquet were not close by & the pulse in his neck was "weakening" and I sprinkled some "morphine powder" in the wound. The Chief of Artillery (COA) was "down" and I crawled over to him as we were "sustaining Confederate artillery and musket fire." I found the COA supine and managed to raise him up slightly and query him as to the extent of his injuries, He told me he had been "hit" in the right hand. I examined the palm and dorsal side of his right hand. I opine that he was "stuck by a metal fragment or at most a graze by a round." Nasty looking and a bleeder but I "controlled the bleeding" with my hand and wrapped it up with my sweat rag
The other piece in the battery and souls attending it were "lost" with Confederate artillery direct hits. Sad day for the Union.
