What an interesting article, reminds me of the WW1 Christmas truce, its strange how these men had grown to view each other as less than human until they meet. The other thing that really struck me was how they were relieved to be able to stand upright and that they both shared similar hazards and depravations.There was a Confederate sharpshooter at Port Hudson known as "old thousand yards" There was an oblique reference to him in the recent Civil War Monitor where he met a Union officer during a truce.
