Cannon to Canister Solid Shot ID

I purchased this off an auction for a display piece. Can anyone give me ideas of authenticity or perhaps even a date range? Or did I get hosed? Thanks!

From here - they look right, and as if we are going from small canister up to potentially a 6 pounder. A dead on photo with that ruler for scale would help.

What about a soft/fabric tape, by chance?

Or a piece of string to measure the equator - then laid parallel with a incremental ruler?

I assume the descriptor was written up by an auction listing agent with no idea.

If these measurements are taken at face value, then at least 2 of the 4 are not 'shot'.

We need to differentiate between 2" and 2.02-2.06", for example…

What about a postal scale? Go at it by weight?

Funny side note - in the absence of a caliper…

Once long ago my wife bought a cloth bra-sizing / bust tape for a one time use kinda thing… actually really quality made and dead accurate for a soft tape - and even has a few nondescript illustrations and written instructions on the tag end.

Guess what has been in my pocket at many ordnance auctions? Always gets noticed.

I have a fabric tape...at school. We have a digital scale somewhere. I can look in the morning. If I use the wrong one my wife is going to throw those iron balls at my head.

I paid 82 for the display. Won out of around 29 bids. It's true the auctioneer probably isn't well versed in this stuff. But the auction was just 30 miles from me so worth the risk to me. The collection did have a lot of older guns, but some were collector's copy. I got 3 guns and this set for well under a grand total. As best I can tell by research, the 3 guns I got were all under other sales of very similar items. But I'm going for display over actual authenticity. I'm not wealthy enough to keep buying all the real deals. But I'm hoping the cannon balls are authentic. Or just a really expensive teaching aid.

All considered - I'd say you did good and they will display well, regardless.

When in doubt, ask the wife. She had gotten a caliper with some other items at a sale recently.
Our scale must be super sensitive because it kept changing, but our house is rocking a bit from this relentless wind.

Small: 2.497 oz/25.8mm
Second: 8.596 oz/39.1
Third: 21.030 oz/52.8mm
Largest: 66.996 oz/77.6mm

Canister sizes range from .65" to 2" and Grapeshot ranges from 2" to 6". Regardless of what you have, it makes for a nice display.

It's handsome display. You like it and that's all that matters. I would think the smallest round is a canister round and the largest could be a 12-pound solid shot

I'd say you don't need to worry about authenticity.

I converted your measurements - and annotated the likely item on the shot charts below.

The two (slightly) outside the published ranges could be of hasty manufacture - or more likely, just need a re-measure so as to not include the mold seam or the like.
