"This is the best known and desirable of all Confederate buttons. That is a direct quote from Tice's button book. This is the pattern listed as figure CS144 in Albert's button book and CS250a in Tice's book. It is the pattern known to collectors as the "JE.B. Stuart" Button. It has always been reported that these buttons were made for J.E.B. Stuart and a select few of his men but I have never seen documentation to back that up. The button has the "CSA" letters around the top. There is a first national pattern Confederate flag in the center and below it has the crossed cavalry sabers. It has the push to the face as almost all of these patterns have and that fact is even notated in Tice's book. When this one was excavated the fragile zinc back and brass shank was missing in action so we had both of them restored for display purposes. A non-excavated button like this once brought well over $40,000.00. You can own this very attractive displaying button for less than 15% of that price."
