That was the ironclad that was blown up after the battle of Wise's Forks, wasn't it?

Yes, but it wasn't blown up. Just set fire and scuttled.

Salvors commenced trying to raise and preserve it in 1961...


When the salvage of the wreck commenced it was found in remarkable condition, with the casemate and deck timbering yet in place.

But the salvors' effort ran out of funding, and the wreck was abandoned to the elements for a time...

Subsequently seriously smashed up in a storm and flood. By the time authorities stepped in, nothing remained but the lower hull.
