This looks interesting:

I looked it up on IMDB, and the cast is interesting -- Bill Paxton as Sam Houston, Kris Kristofferson as Andrew Jackson, and Rob Morrow as James Fannin. (Morrow does conflicted indecision really well.) The cast includes some lesser-known figures as well, including David Burnet, Sidney Sherman, Big Foot Wallace, Jack Hays, Buffalo Hump, and Juan Seguin.

I also noticed that the characters of Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett are not included in the cast listing online. I don't know if that's an oversight, or reflects a decision to step out from the traditional way of telling the Alamo story. If it's the latter, it will be interesting to see how they pull it off.

The IMDB summary says it tells the story of the creation of the Texas Rangers, but the Alamo, Goliad and the Texas Revolution are (forgive me, Molly Ivins!) really just backstory to that. The story of the Texas Rangers needs more Jack Hays and Buffalo Hump and less Santa Anna and James Fannin.

I know it's the Ice Road Truckers History Channel, but I can hope (at least until Memorial Day).

Reading some of the descriptions I don't think the Alamo is going to play a huge screen role in this depiction. Seems to appear to be more around the other peripheral issues and the formation of the Texas Rangers. Which will be interesting since most of the Texas Revolution shows center specifically on the Alamo and not so much the other events.

The other possibility is that the trailer focuses on things they producers expect will generate buzz and anticipation, and the actual film will be quite a bit different.

The siege might not have lasted thirteen days if Santa Anna had put his guns up on that mountain behind the chapel. ¡Pendejo!

Why can't they just do a movie about the Hornsbys? There are more Texas Rangers in the Hornsby's Bend cemetery per capita than anywhere else I can think of.....and then you get Burleson, McCulloch and the really interesting people!

Rob Morrow as James Fannin. (Morrow does conflicted indecision really well.)
THAT is the most epic win.....ever.

My old coach junior high Texas history teacher loved Texas Rangers and spent way more time on them than on anything about the Alamo. He also like Quanah Parker a lot--I think he would approve of this production.

The idea, probably. If Joe says the costumes are sub-par, I'm taking his word for it (I haven't looked yet)....and we haven't even gotten to the story yet. :)

I'll give it a chance. But.....dang.

Andy,
Talk about historical accuracy, who'd a thought they would remember to include that mountain, Nuestra senora de gran monten de tierra, course we Texans know it was bulldozed away in 1842.
