I have come across an expression that I've not seen before on the service card in the Maine State Archives and hope that someone can explain!
The soldier/sailor enlisted in the Maine Coast Guard Infantry and was stationed off Eastport, Maine. He served for only 6 months before receiving an honorable discharge. Shortly after that, he re-enlisted in the US Navy only to desert a year later.
His entry in the 1890 schedule doesn't mention the navy service but his request for an invalid pension (in 1914) references his having been an apprentice aboard the Tioga and the Sabine.
At the bottom of the service card for the naval service is scrawled "enlisted for minority". Does anyone know what this means?
