A recipe using my favorite fruit, strawberries. This older one from my Aunt's family.
Strawberry Trifle
2 quarts fresh strawberries
2 tablespoons sugar
2 cups fresh whipping cream
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon amaretto or almond flavoring
1 whole prepared angel cake
8 0z. softened cream cheese
additional 1 tablespoon amaretto
Slice strawberries and toss in large bowl with sugar and amaretto. Set aside in refrigerator overnight or at least 4 hours.
Pour 2 cups fresh, cold whipping cream into large bowl and begin beating into peaks. Gradually add powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon amaretto. Whip to stiff peaks. On low speed of mixer, gradually add softened cream cheese. Set aside.
Tear prepared angel food cake into bite sized pieces. Using a trifle bowl, begin layering strawberries, whipped cream mixture and angel food cake evenly, starting with the strawberries. Sprinkle with cinnamon to garnish. Refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours before serving.
Makes an elegant and delicious dessert.
