being into the irish & german one line at a time is often best i come to my ggg grand dad james henson Born clay co ky!and was also a 'volunteer' in Stand Waties Cherokee Mounted Rifles.

i have no idea but my aunt she mescalaro apache even to this day she doesnt 'allow' pics of herself i dont even sneek any of her out of respect

I doubt the North Carolina Cherokees were much different from those in Oklahoma. Below is a photograph of N.C. Cherokee Confederate veterans at a UCV reunion.

im in need of a direction. As trying to research further information on stand waties cmr, i understand if it was correct involvement in Pea Ridge & Wilsons Creek? ikm searchin for the 'start' of the engagements before during & after..
can anyone assist plz?

Kitty. There are some eyewitness accounts that state that a small group of Cherokee Indians arrived at the 'Southern' camp prior to the Battle of Wilson's Creek, but I do not think there is any mention of their involvement in the battle in any accounts. I have read modern reports that state Watie might have been an observer at Wilson's Creek, but I have seen no original documentation that backs that up.

Watie's involvement at Pea Ridge is well documented, but the taking of scalps from Union soldiers, so horrified Southern commanders that they were pretty well limited to the Indian territory (Oklahoma) afterwards. The first battle of Newtonia, Missouri is an interesting battle to research, if your interest is in Native Americans fighting in the war. This was one of the few incidents were Indians fighting for both sides actually met in battle.

Ok Southern camp' locataion of that do you know or ill see if can locate it theres soooo many various encampments i cant keep em all straight!! well actualy is is as my ggggrandad was in one or the other, BUT honestly grandad was 36 at the time & a farmer Somehow i cant see him scapling another human prehaps it was more of the 'wild *** nds'..lol xcuse my phrasing my late mama would call my sons that when they little lolI have been watchin on youtube the NPS series from Ranger Matt Atkinson some folks i talk to on the civil war somehow they dont tink any other battles were going on Except Gettysburgh. Heck ima old fart & i know better than that! LOL

that was the general belief of many NA tribes
