What is this? Springfield? Foreign marks?

I'm looking at buying this rifle. Looks like a Springfield (I've only seen photos till now) but don't know what the foreign markings are. Does anybody know what this thing is based on the markings? I'm trying to get a photo of the lock plate, but don't have it yet. Thanks

That's one of the Pattern 1853 Enfields out of the cache in Nepal, I believe. Hence the markings on that piece. Not Civil War-provenance, but certainly the P53 was the most common long arm of the CSA, arguably, and the most common foreign-manufactured long arm of the Federals.

A particular company, International Military Antiques, imported the great bulk of the Nepali cache, including everything the British Raj used from the Brown Bess through the Martini Henry and much else besides.

Thank you for your expertise. So it probably came from that Nepali cache found in 2003. I don't remember hearing about that back then, but just read up on it and that was one amazing amount of weapons they hoarded away for 150 years.

This one is pretty dirty, is it worth 100 - 150? Not sure I even want to buy it now since no connection to ACW.

It is worth least a couple hundred dollars, I would think

From what I recall, the P53s from that Nepal Royal Armory cache are pretty rough. And obviously, no US Civil War provenance so I am not sure why anyone would want one? A lot of the better specimens were stripped and sold for parts back when they first came to market. They are still selling them on the IMA website.

Calling these a "rare" model is a bit of sales puffery.
