Example:
"The Louisiana 1st Infantry Battalion [also called 2nd Infantry Battalion, 1st Special Battalion and Wheat's Tigers] was formed at Camp Walker, near New Orleans, Louisiana, in May, 1861, with five companies." (italics mine)

Does anyone know if that meant anything? I am unaware of anything indicating that either Wheat's battalion or the 1st Florida Infantry Battalion (also known as the 1st Special Battalion) were raised for any unusual service - but that may be ignorance on my part.
