This should be added to the pinned topics HERE and HERE. In fact, it would be nice if the state-by-state parts were merged into one pinned topic. If manpower is the problem, then I would be willing to help.

The more difficult task would be maintaining such a list as URLs become obsolete, etc.

At least half of the links in the pinned post at the top of the Research Forum are now duds. It's VERY frustrating. I'm torn between finding the new links and posting a new version of the list or abandoning having a list at all, as I know any new list will quickly become full of errors as well.

Yep. Cyndi Ingle of Cyndislist is a friend and she spends so much time fixing broken links that she has little time for anything else. She does have a subcategory called "Regiments, Rosters, Histories & Records: The Union" (and another for the Confederacy) which is a state-by-state list of resources.

Yes! I would absolutely love having an extra hand. I'm trying to build a pretty good list.

I have a bit more that what I posted here and a darn good bibliography to go with it.

As you know, the second pinned topic was mine. I split it into parts so that if any needed to be edited, it would be easier to locate. I do wish, though, that the posts were still editable today. Just two days ago, I realized that the US Regulars link was broken, but found a link to the same on a different website; however, I could only post it in the thread, as I was unable to edit my original post.

For example, most of the Arkansas Confederate units originated from posts on history-sites.com, a forum similar to this one. Additionally, the list of all Confederate units can be found in the book "Field Officers, Regiments, and Battalions of the Confederate States Army," which is readily available on Amazon and here on Google Books. The list of all Union units can be found in the book "A Compendium of the War of the Rebellion", aka Dyer's Compendium, which can be located here on Google Books.

To restate my previous point, I would urge you to peruse some of the individual state sources I have listed in my thread here: https://civilwartalk.com/threads/my-go-to-resources-for-researching-units-by-state.214434/

Sir, as Wikipedia is not the original source, I would not suggest including them in a list of resources, or as reliable resources at all. For example, most of the Arkansas Confederate units originated from posts on history-sites.com, a forum similar to this one.
