Submitted story

Urbana VFW Post 5451 will be hosting a Civil War Cannon Dedication on Friday at 4:30 p.m. It is an authentic, battle-used Civil War cannon that the post was able to purchase from Ron Williams. The cannon will be permanently posted in front of the VFW located at 220 E. Court St., Urbana. Champaign County had 578 soldiers killed in action during the Civil War.

The never mention what type of cannon...

Cheers,

I'd call the type of cannon "fake." I've owned more cannons than I can count and this one is a pretty crude fake. This must be a pretty small town to have no one who could spot this fake. I hope the Post didn't pay much for it. Even just this photo showing the muzzle would alert any serious CWCollector.

It's interesting, looking on web don't see it referred to anything other then "authentic battle used civil war cannon".

No references to specific history, model, or battle.

It is pretty obvious someone made some slight alterations to a PIPE and called it a cannon. Nothing on the fake carriage is right either. Makes me wonder what kind of person would want to deceive his neighbors this way!

Per the article linked in post #1

Per this article

That'd be Ron Williams on the left, per the caption
