Just picked up this Slocum Sliding Sleeve 32 caliber rimfire revolver. This is one of the Civil War era cartridge guns that truly circumvented the S&W held patent for a bored through cylinder.

I was surprised to find a crescent moon and a cross stamped in the frame beneath the grips. Anyone have a Slocum with similar frame stampings?

The sleeves (tubes) on the cylinder slide forward, a cartridge is dropped into the chamber and the sleeve is pushed back to load an individual chamber. Basically each chamber is loaded from the side -- not the front or back of the cylinder.
ok. that makes a lot of sense!

I will go along with the R & 9 being assembler's marks. Perhaps the Crescent and Cross are individual in-factory inspector's marks to verify everything has been checked to be up to standards. BTW, a very nice example of a Slocum!
