Shiloh

In 1862, the Civil War Battle of Shiloh began in Tennessee as Confederate forces launched an attack against Union troops, who beat back the Confederates the next day.

And on April 6 my grandfather's half brother, Pvt. Jesse Fox of Blythe's 1st Mississippi Battalion (referred to as regiment in some reports), was killed in action. The battalion was part of Gen. Bushrod Johnson's Tennessee Brigade which distinguished itself in the battle.

Jesse's father was a yeoman farmer with no slaves. Some might call them evil. I disagree.
