I didn't know where I should post this so thought I'll post it here I'm sorry if I put it in the wrong forum. I'm looking for information on the Shiloh metal carriage like when did they first make them and what color was they originally my town has 2 that my scv camp put up a member painted one of them last summer and the other one is in need of painting so I've been wondering what color was they originally thanks

The original gun carriages were made of white oak, so when exposed to weather it is doubtful that they would last over ten to fifteen years. I can't tell you when the NPS started going to metal carriages, but I imagine that it was early in the twentieth century. As for color, the originals were painted a shade of dark green similar to olive drab and the metal fittings and an iron or steel gun were painted black. If it was a bronze gun it would have been highly polished. I'm sure that if you contacted Ranger Stacey Allen at Shiloh, he can give you much more information than I can.
