My old arrangement for my shell frags (one single shelf) has long been outgrown by how many I've accumulated over these past 2 years, I basically had to stack them on top of each other in a pile (which looked terrible!)
So I finally made a dedicated space for them in my display area, and bought this cheap little shelf for them all

I don't have a very big collection but I've always enjoyed collecting them, trying to identify the type of shell from the shape and characteristics of the fragment is very interesting to me.

Very true, I don't think I'd want any one of them flying at my head from a puff of smoke
Especially the ones on the larger side…

It's a segment of the base of a Confederate 7" Brooke shell. More than likely fired by one of the Confederate gunboats on the Tensaw River.

Much obliged, was really happy to get that frag so I wanted to make it stand out. It was found alongside a few others during construction in downtown Columbia in the 1960s, at the site of the arsenal.
