I've looked at The English Connection and the marking in question is a "Type 2" on the bottom of the stock behind the trigger guard. My question is this - does this marking ALWAYS mean CS purchase? I'm afraid of jumping to conclusions and seeing what I want to see, so figured it'd be worth a post asking for insight.

It's an 1862 W & C. Scott. No inventory engraving on buttplate or other clues that I can see. Tiny stamp in the wood opposite the lockplate that is tough to make out and doesn't correlate to any of the others shown in the book. Can post more comprehensive photos tomorrow if desired.

It's unissued; some bumps and stains of course but looks like it just came out of a crate. If it's CS, it's almost got to be one of the ones intercepted by the blockade and tied up in prize court long enough that it never saw service.
