This recipe for Sausage Cakes is from 1865 and part of "Civil War Recipes Receipts from the Pages of Godey's Lady's Book". It sounds like one to make for breakfast to go with your eggs.

Sausage Cakes

"Chop a pound of good pork, fine, add a half teaspoonful of pepper, half a spoonful of cloves, half a spoonful of coriander seed, and four tablespoonfuls of cold water. Mix all well together, form them into small cakes, and fry in a hot pan."

Wow, cloves and coriander? That must have been very savory! I've never thought of making my own sausage patties, never realized it was that simple. Thanks for sharing! :geek:
