So does anyone have or know of any of the good year catalogs? I'd like to start some research into rubber/ plastic use in the civil war. Also any info would be greatly appreciated

Charles passed in 1860, so for Civil War vulcanized objects & products, you'll want to search other companies like Novelty Rubber Co. & per rubberized objects back to companies using the patent too. Gutta percha, composition, horn, (bois durci France), were other (early) plastic-like molded materials of that era.

There is a book that published in 1999 that covered the subject titled India Rubber and Gutta-Percha in the Civil War by Mike Woshner. 320 pages. There are copies available on line but they run about $125.

I have a copy of Mr Woshner's book. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in researching the uses of rubber during the war. It's very well written, with lots of pictures and detailed history. Well worth the money!
