Rosette?

Found near cavalry site. Is it period? I think it's a lion or monkey not sure.

Monkey! No that's a Lion for sure. Popular in Italian military designs

Just as a guess, I'd say LION. A monkey doesn't seem like something that would appear on a military object.

Makes me wonder is it even a rosette or part of a two piece buckle ?

This style lion looks like a rosette and the back is missing its bar. The two spots on the back look like the breaking points of the bar vs an import buckle that would have the connectors on the side

Ok that makes sense , any idea on age range ? I was hoping it was part of confederate lion buckle but it doesn't match up

I might be wrong, but looks like one of the keepers from a Snake Buckle with the Lion Head Keepers Re: North South Trader Vol.35 #2.

It's similar but not the same, I've looked at those already. I wish it was though

It is a civilian rosette with lion head. You have to remember back in that period everyone had a horse. This piece came from someone with means. Nice piece
