Sling buckle?

It looks similar to carbine sling buckle but only one tongue and it's a longer tongue. Could there have been variations in this buckle? Found near cavalry site.

Post war Cavalry had a thinner single tongue sling buckle but this looks mangled and could just be missing one tongue.
