Spent the day on Wed in Gettysburg and was surprised that the restroom at Devil's Den was still there. Thurs on our local news they did a story on the removal of the restrooms. So they are gone. Sorry no pictures yet but hope to go next week sometime and will post a picture if we do.

To make that area look more like 1863. They are also going to put electric wires underground. The Friends of Gettysburg has raised the money for that over the last couple years

I'm confused about the purpose of the electric wires. Is there some reason they don't want people walking there in particular?

These are the wires that carry electricity to the various businesses and houses in Gettysburg. They buried them a few years back as part of the project to make the battlefield look more like it did in 1863.

The electric wires were a utility to supply electricity (lights, etc) to the attractions/buildings in the area. Putting them underground has helped restore the appearance to pre-electricity.

Ok they are putting the wires underground--whose remains are they going to desturb? Are they sure DNA isn't where the wires are going. Also if they are trying to get it to look like "63", they better do away with the road, and the parking lot, and the placards, and oohh yes the tourists. So guys are going to pee in Devils den, or in the woods.
I get it, but you have to make allowances for the people. And if you don't want the tourists, then there is no reason to have our tax dollars support the place.

Oh, thanks for the clarification. I had the idea they were putting the type of wires you use for invisible fences!

The wires are all underground and they didn't disturb any remains.

The park map has restroom locations on it. It's not like there's no place anywhere. There are restrooms at the Visitors Center, the West Side ranger station and the Pennsylvania Memorial. Also, there are portapotties at BRT and as you come off LRT at Wheatfield Road. Plus there are restaurants with facilities where Emmitsburg Road becomes Steinwehr Avenue.

Of course, if the fact that there are no longer restrooms at Devil's Den is going to keep someone away, it's their loss, not anyone else's.
