I was planning on visiting Kennesaw, Pickett's Mill and Resaca in March or April and saw recently that the planned grand opening for the battlefield is set for May 13th. I wanted to see if anyone knew if you could visit the battlefield currently or is it off limits until the grand opening? I'd hate to make the trip in March or April if I can't visit Resaca so checking to see if anyone on the forum knows about that or not. Dave Powell's most recent blogged linked this: http://civil-war-picket.blogspot.com/2016/02/its-official-resaca-battlefield-park.html

Sounds like a soft opening in late March or April at least. I wasn't sure if anyone on here might have more info or knows more about it.

It wasn't off limits for me a year ago January :D. It was quite a walk from the gate to the start of the signage and trails though. Over a year later it is possible that they fenced it off but I doubt it. Good luck!!

* The Resaca Battlefield (Camp Creek Valley) is not open per the Friends of Resaca Battlefield website. My son and I visited this site in the spring of 2014 and took plenty of photos from the entrance off US 136. Make sure to visit the Fort Wayne Civil War Historic Site and the Confederate Cemetery.

* Make sure to check the Pickett's Mill Battlefield website for days and times for openings. They are not open for business everyday of the week.

* When you visit the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield, make sure to arrive early to the visitor center. Parking spaces are limited due to joggers, walkers and hikers. And the traffic surrounding this site is brutal.

* I hope you include the Allatoona Pass Battlefield on your trip. This battlefield is not very far from the Pickett's Mill Battlefield site.

* I have posted these battlefields in threads throughout the Atlanta Campaign Forum.

Hope this helps......

Bill

I drove by in January and the gate was locked. I suggest you contact them about when and I'd it is open.
