I have a 1861 navy cutlass that I'm pretty sure is a replica the only thing is that when I look at replicas mine doesn't have those type of markings nor does it have the correct markings for me to believe it's authentic it looks period correct but that's easy to fake I'm thinking it's a very old replica the only markings on it are on the blade there's a C S a Anchor and date of 1861 lightly engraved the S and 8 are barely readable does anyone have a clue.

Welcome From THE Heart Of Dixie. It is indeed a reproduction.

The cup and hilt would be correct for a US cutlass, but the blade appears to be too long (should be 26") and yes, it is a replica. Welcome to the group from middle Alabama, it is good to have you join us.

Welcome to CivilWarTalk. I hope that now that you've gotten the answer on your cutlass you'll stick around a take a look at some of the interesting info we have on the site.

Thank you

I thought that but it didn't make sense on a union navy cutlass

27in
It indeed doesn't, but from the misshapen pommel cap this is a relatively poor repro from India or Pakistan, and what do they know or care - except of course that anything with CS or CSA on it sells for more!

This has neither pakistan nor india stamped on it which most do if it did I never would of purchased it I have enough of there junk already the sword seems to me pretty solid full tang not a long bolt with a nut holding it together actually a riveted hand guard that's leading me to believe it's a old fake when they would put more effort into them.
