Reenacting Units in Texas?

So this is a weird question, but I'm getting ready to bid on my next posting in a few months, and there are a number of Mexican border posts available. Aside from the fact that they could be a good fit, job-wise, I'm hoping that might mean some viable reenacting opportunities. Does anyone know of any reenacting units in either the El Paso or Brownsville areas (or, better yet, have personal experience with any of them)? I would probably self-identify as being more on the progressive/campaigner end of things, but my current main unit is a mainstream unit, so I'm not totally opposed to that, if the farbery isn't way out of control.

Blue or gray is fine by me, since I have the gear for both. Cavalry's a non-starter, sadly, because I don't have a horse and have zero interest in doing any dismounted cav stuff. I'd consider artillery, but I know virtually nothing about it.

Not much along the border, most units are east of the hill country. I think that the 6th, or the 9th Texas may have some guys down that way, but it is a long haul to get to any event from there. You might also check with the Texas Ground Hornets, no website, but I can get you contact info. The Ground Hornets have several guys in the Austin-San Antonio area.

Might want to check into "Hood's Division" re-enactors; General Jack King commanding.

150th Palmetto Ranch is coming up in 2015, you could be Union infantry. 6th Texas (based around San Antone) will
have some people doing that. Will also go to Hempstead, Tx in November 2014, either as federal or zouaves. Check out
6thtx.org for their facts/schedule.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys- I knew I could count on CWT! I meant to respond sooner, but life kind of got in the way! I don't mind driving to get to events, necessarily (I've done a couple of events on the East Coast where I drove ten or twelve hours to get there, and it was worth the effort for me), so that's not a deal breaker. And realistically, aside from maybe a job in Montreal or DC, there's not going to be many places I could get posted where there's a wealth of reenacting options right nearby.

I looked at the 9th Texas' website and was impressed, but based on what I read there, I don't think they'd accept me as a member because I'm female. Anyone know whether the 6th Texas has a particular policy on that front? I can shoot them an e-mail, obviously, but if someone knows them from personal experience, any thoughts would be helpful. Just for the record, I'm not the Private Barbie type at all- I want to campaign, not wear nail polish in the field.

Well the 6th and 9th do a lot of events together, composing the Red River Battalion. I would imagine that their policy is probably very much the same. I would recommend contacting one of the officers and asking them directly. Aside from that there isn't going to be much out there for you. I've lived in Texas my whole life and can't name any other units with a dedicated Federal impression. Everyone out here plays Confederate. If things don't pan out with the Red River Battalion you'd probably have to join a mainstream unit, and things go down hill really quick there. Contact me privately and perhaps I can be of more assistance.

Cheers,
Garrett Glover

Confederate is totally fine by me- my current unit does both Confederate and Federal, so I've got the gear for both (although I'd need to make a few changes to make my Eastern theater Confederate stuff work for Western theater, obviously). I'm more worried about avoiding getting roped into a complete farbfest of a unit, if it all possible. I'll shoot them an e-mail and see what happens- the worst they can say is "no," and since I haven't even bid on the job yet, there's nothing lost either way.
