Does anyone see John's influence in this plan that Jason drew while waiting at the doctor's office?

This plan was unique enough that he wanted to do a model of it to see it in 3D. He should be done with it in a few days. This is one of 4 he drew like this that day: the others were the "Hamilton", "Ashboro", and the "Ocracoke"

Hey John, his Ocracoke is an Albemarle or Bonner hull with a Dismal casemate. He drew more like a horizontal gun slit rather than ports. I asked about doors, he said one curved piece of iron with two chains connected to it to slide it up to shoot. Kind of like an eye lid.

I've just started to print off a hard copy of the edited version 9 of my manuscript. Got to North Carolina, and the entry for the two gun ironclad, which is how i came to doodle the drawing above ( which is NOT going in)

A horizontal slit would work well with one of John Roy's turntables inside, not sure about the door, the chains might get shot off so you couldn't open it as happened on Tennessee, although those shutters were on runners. I imagine Ocrakoke looks a bit like an upturned bathtub on a raft ! I'm working my way through my manuscript printing off a hard copy of the edited version 9. I'd just got to North Caroliana when I saw your post.

Ok it is done.

After cutting the hull 2 times and casemate 3 times before it looked "right" to him. I did help him more on this one as opposed to the others because this is 1/144 scale.

Elliott's floating battery "if finished" version was a bag of wood blocks and paint and brushes when he left to stay with grandma for the night. This is what came home.

Great work, love the spar torpedo ! That's the first time I've seen one of he floating batteries in 3D, I have never got round to building one.

Thinking on Elliott's contract No 3. The Albemarle hull is probably too small to accept two seperate gunhouses. The timing of the contract could indicate they would be something akin to those of "Wilmington". The vessel would have to be shallow draft, the "Wilmington" hull is probably too big. So what might fit the bill ?
An enlarged Albemarle ? There is one CSS Fredericksburg. Any thoughts ?

corn-fed-erate,

This is one COOL kid!

What an imagination and excellent follow-through to construct what he has constructed in his mind!

Can't wait to hear about any other project he involves himself in!

Sincerely,
Unionblue
PS You must be so proud. ;)

Are we talking about a "doodle" or Harry Thompson's "Elliott's Double Casemate"? Let's see a plan but don't make it look too good cause I know someone who will have to build it.

Quite a boy! How old is he? My son loved to build but he was much older and in a different interest. (Had to have at least an electric motor) He was about 11. But he also expected his projects to work when he got done(some did).
