Rear sight ID

Can anyone ID this rear sight - Enfield? Year/model? I think I've seen the screw type on some Enfields recently. Maybe it'd be a good addition for a future project.

I think your right. Definitely not a enfield. Never seen an enfield with a sight like that.

What do the screw heads look like under the 500 yard sight? The one on eBay has a special type that requires some special tool to tighten/loosen, like a golf shoe spike. What's the screw type called? I can't make out 3 or 5 or whatever on either sight leaf.

Both have a round screw head with 2 holes.

Yes, Joslyn used the M-1861 rear sight, with protective ears and flush screw head. I called it a M-1861 sight because Springfield developed it for the M-1861 Musket. Joslyn used it because it was the most common sight available on the open parts market without having to tool up to make one of their own.

PS - I had meant to add that the sight base mounting screw is known as a "Spanner Screw". If you ever have the need to remove, or install one, the easiest way to make a spanner wrench for it is to take a common flat blade screw driver and grind out the center leaving two pins on the outer edges to match the holes in the top of the screw head.

I never noticed that my Gibbs carbine also has the Springfield rear sight.
