Old Jubal would have fought the yankees until the day he died. He never apoligized and he was defiant until the end. Jubal was never ever ever anything close to being a scalawag. The song "I'm a Good 'Ole Rebel" should have been written with Jubal in mind. But he never starved or froze at "Pint Lookout"

Porter Alexander never apologized either, and remained proud of his Confederate service. But when the war was over, it was over, and he got on with his life.

I feel sorry for Early if he chose to live out his life in bitterness. Sucks to be him.

Here is a little trivia on General James Longstreet. On March 7, 1877, Longstreet converted to the Catholic faith in New Orleans. His conversion was brought about by Father Abram J. Ryan, the Poet Priest of the Confederacy. Longstreet had been Episcopalian, but found people didn't sit near him any more. Father Ryan assured him : "that in the Catholic Church people came to Mass to worship God and not to vent to political animosities". Longstreet remained a devout Catholic until his death in 1904.

His funeral Mass was said by Bishop Benjamin J. Kelley of Savannah, Georgia who had served in the Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War.
