For some reason, my library has it down in the Kids Room instead of in the Local History section upstairs. Most of the other libraries in the consortium who have the book have it in the adult nonfiction area.

Thought the men that appear fit with the image associated with the dash and pluck of Morgan's Raiders - they look every bit like cavaliers.

And so well fed and so comfortable looking…. Are we sure that picture was taken while they were in prison?

It definitely looks like they are housed in a spacious cell, judging by the thickness of the walls and the iron bars. It also appears to be early in their imprisonment, based on the condition of their intact attire and the plentiful supply of refreshments available.

Yes! They were evidently in the Western Penitentiary in Pennsylvania and it looks like there are rugs on the floor. They were captured in July, 1863 and Morgan and some others escaped in November, 1863. Supposedly Morgan travelled part of the way south on a train chatting with a Union officer, so he must have been very presentable looking.
