I havn't checked Hartwig's book yet, but is there any scholarship that covers the post battle period of the AOP leading up to Brunside taking command and the start of the Fredericksburg?
Some of this (especially the supply crisis) is in Too Useful to Sacrifice, though from memory I can't recall if it covers the plans issue or the operational movements in Loudoun Valley. I've actually done maps for the operational movements, though.

Vince Armstrong (of "Unfurl those Colors!" fame) is just finishing "McClellan in Command" covering operations from September 1862 to the general's removal in November. Coming from the Antietam Institute this year.
