Is there some provenance to suggest they are. Or is simply taking random pictures and asking if could be?

Certainly as famous as JJ was at the time, and since.......any photo would likely have provenance, as if it was actually JJ, the owners would knew what they had........

With these particular photos I have tried an overlay which the ears have similar shape the chin and eyes are very close but are the people next to the person matching as well? The top photo looks to be jesse and his wife but let's compare....

Umm no doesn't appear to be. Again is there any known provenance suggesting so?

If you think so, be happy it's in your collection........however if thinking it translates into money.......... need some provenance and more evidence then think it "might be" or a sellers opinion "looks to be."

As he says it mainly comes down to provenance. As otherwise the saying applies "appearances can be deceiving"

Certainly here in branson many celebrity impersonators come through. One could easily say many do appear similar to who they protray......but they also obviously aren't them, despite the similarity in appearance

I was surprised to see the Billy the Kid / Croquet image was debunked. It got a lot of publicity.

The publicity is frequently part of the marketing of spurious antiquities. Possessors of real ones usually don't bother.
